Published on November 5, 2021, Marseille's William Saliba was expected to feature in the France team, but he had a disappointing night against Lazio.
Saliba, on loan from Arsenal, has been impressive in recent weeks, but he struggled to make an impact in this match. He was expected to be part of the French team for the matches against Kazakhstan and Finland, but coach Didier Deschamps opted for other players, including Lenglet, Zouma, and Upamecano.
Saliba's mistakes were costly, as he missed a few raises that resulted in Lazio situations. He also tried to do something with a flat foot, which led to Felipe Anderson equalizing for Lazio in the 45th minute.
In the second half, Saliba's struggles continued, and he totally missed the ball, allowing Ciro Immobile to give Lazio the lead.
Coach Jorge Sampaoli was questioned about Saliba's error and the team's tendency to start from the back. He explained, 'Honestly, I think it's the form. During the first period, we started off, and that's when we conceded a goal. We have to be more careful with the balls and better manage the game.'
