On November 4th, 2021, Lilian Ng'ang'a, the ex-wife of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, made explosive allegations against him, claiming her life was in danger.
Mutua, who was in Boston at the time, responded to the allegations by borrowing Max Ehrmann's poem 'Desiderata' to address the drama surrounding their separation.
He wrote on his Instagram account, 'Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.' By Desiderata.
However, Mutua's message came just hours after Ng'ang'a claimed that Mutua had threatened to deal with her and people close to her after their separation.
Ng'ang'a stated that Mutua is demanding all the money he has ever given to her, and that he has already started re-possessing her assets.
She revealed that on September 8, 2021, Mutua accompanied by his police bodyguard stormed her apartment in Kileleshwa, and took away her personal car and transferred its ownership to another person.
Ng'ang'a also accused Mutua of fraudulently taking away her shares in properties that they jointly owned when they were together.
She stated, 'Mr Mutua recently and illegally transferred my shares in the Ndash Enterprises LTD (the hotel company) to his sister Ann Mbandi Mutua. Again, a clear act of fraud.'
Ng'ang'a appealed to the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Public Prosecution, to expedite the investigation and charge Mr Mutua for the serious crimes he has so far committed before her and friends and harmed.
