Alphonse Kimengwa, the Officer in Charge of Muthaiga Police Station, has been interdicted following allegations that he allowed people visiting Dennis Itumbi to pose for photos with him in the cells.

Itumbi, a blogger based at Deputy President William Ruto's office, was remanded at the station after his arrest on Wednesday.

He was arraigned in court on Thursday, where police were granted five days to finalize investigations into allegations that he authored a fake letter on the DP's alleged assassination plot.

Itumbi denies involvement in the letter and has claimed that he has video evidence of a hotel meeting where the plot was allegedly discussed.

During his court appearance, Itumbi told Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Zainabu Abdul that he was ready to present the video in court but was not allowed.

He also alleged that detectives had attempted to coerce him to admit that he authored the letter.

Itumbi is said to be a member of a 256-member WhatsApp group comprising politicians, bloggers, and DP Ruto's supporters, where the letter was circulated.

Police are investigating the chat room, and members of the social media group are due for questioning.

Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya, Sicily Kariuki, and Joe Mucheru, along with 20 other government officials, were summoned to the DCI headquarters in late June to record statements following claims that they had attended the controversial meeting at La Mada hotel in Nairobi.

The three CSs distanced themselves from the claims, with Munya terming them as baseless.
