On June 14, 2020, a heinous crime was committed in the Mzee Wanyama area of Nakuru. A 45-year-old man lured his lover's 13-year-old daughter with Sh100 before defiling her.
Nakuru Principal Magistrate Yvonne Khatambi presided over the case and handed down a 20-year prison sentence to the accused, citing the need for a hefty punishment due to the increasing number of such cases.
Magistrate Khatambi stated that the prosecution had proven beyond doubt the accused's guilt, and she dismissed his defence as an afterthought. The accused failed to raise any issues during cross-examination, which further solidified the prosecution's case.
Magistrate Khatambi praised the complainant for her consistent testimony, stating, "The complainant remained consistent in her testimony during the examination in chief and during cross-examination. I believe her testimony."
