14 Dead in Kenya Cattle Raid

Kenya's Samburu County witnessed a deadly cattle raid on Wednesday night, resulting in the loss of at least 14 lives and leaving five others seriously injured.

According to authorities, the incident occurred in the Suyian area of Samburu North, where a group of cattle rustlers engaged in a prolonged confrontation with residents that lasted over 12 hours.

Sub County Police Commandant Alex Rotich confirmed the incident, stating that the raid began at approximately 6pm on Wednesday and continued until 1pm on Thursday.

Rotich explained that the armed bandits raided a village in Suyian area, making off with over 1,000 heads of cattle, and that 14 people died on the spot.

Those injured in the incident are being treated at Barsaloi health centre in Samburu North, while serious cases have been transferred to the Samburu County Referral Hospital in Samburu Central.

Rotich further stated that nine armed criminals also died in the shootout, and that security has been intensified in the area, with security officers pursuing the armed criminals who fled with the livestock.
