On November 4, 2021, Somalia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs declared Ugandan diplomat Simon Mulongo, the Deputy Head of the African Mission in Somalia (Amisom), persona non grata.

The decision was made after Mulongo allegedly engaged in activities incompatible with Amisom's mandate and Somalia's security strategy.

According to a letter sent to Amisom and the African Union Commission (AUC), Mulongo is ordered to leave the country within seven days.

"(He is) ordered to leave the country within seven days for engaging in activities incompatible with Amisom’s mandate and Somalia’s security strategy," the letter states.

Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdirizak emphasized that Amisom staff, particularly those at the leadership level, are expected to be beyond reproach in their integrity as they discharge their duty under the UN/AU mandate.

Abdirizak tweeted, "The FGS will hold accountable AMISOM personel, particularly those at the leadership level, who are expected to be beyond reproach in their integrity as they discharge their duty under the UN/AU mandate." (@MAbdirizak)
