On November 3, 2021, a Kenyan judge issued a dramatic order to the government: produce missing lawyer Prof Hassan Nandwa and his client Elgiva Bwire within 24 hours.

Justice Anthony Mrima made the order after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) moved to court seeking the production of the duo, whether dead or alive.

Prof Nandwa, a respected Islamic scholar and advocate, was kidnapped on October 28, 2021, while picking up his client Bwire from Kamiti Maximum Prison. Bwire had just completed a 10-year jail term for terrorism charges.

LSK has also sought orders to compel Safaricom, a giant telecommunication company, to provide Prof Nandwa's mobile phone call records and BTS (Base Transmitting Station) records and logs from October 28, 2021, to November 2, 2021.

According to LSK, Prof Nandwa is a member of the society who practices as an advocate and an Islamic scholar.

Prof Nandwa's whereabouts remain unknown, and his disappearance has sparked widespread concern.
