Published on November 4, 2021, a report by Acronis, a global technology cybersecurity company, has shed light on the growing threat of supply chain attacks.
According to the Acronis Cyber Readiness Report 2021, a staggering 53% of 3600 IT managers and remote employees working at small and medium-sized companies across 18 countries face a greater risk of supply chain attacks due to the lack of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions.
“Despite the globally recognized attacks on trusted software vendors, like Kaseya or SolarWinds, over half of IT leaders believe that using “known, trusted software” is sufficient protection – making them an easy target,” the report stated.
Phishing attacks were the most common type of attack, accounting for 58%, followed by distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks at 39.8%, and malware attacks at 36.5%.
The report also revealed that companies in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region experience an average of at least one cyber-attack per day, and at least one per hour.
This represents a significant increase from the 68% recorded in 2020 to 80% in 2021.
“Only a small number of companies have taken the time to modernize their IT stack with integrated data protection and cybersecurity. The threat landscape will continue to grow, and automation is the only path to greater security, lower costs, and improved efficiency, and reduced risks,” the report added.
