On March 17, 2017, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited British soldiers at the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) in Ole Naishu near Nanyuki, Kenya. Little did he know that one of his soldiers would soon be in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

A British soldier, Colour Sergeant Barlow, was fined £500 (Ksh76, 100) and relieved of his duties for lifting the skirt of a Kenyan woman in a shopping mall in Nanyuki while intoxicated.

According to a UK publication, Barlow's action to humiliate the woman was only made public last week. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was served with a compensation order of £500.

A British Army spokesperson described the officer's conduct as 'disgraceful', saying, 'This was appalling behaviour from the senior non-commissioned officer.'
