Published on November 3, 2021, a traffic police officer has agreed to forfeit Kshs.26 million linked to bribes collected from matatus along the Garissa-Thika Highway.

According to an agreement adopted by Justice James Wakiaga, Jamal Bare Mohammed will surrender the money, which is being held by Equity Bank and has been frozen since 2017.

The Kshs.26 million is part of Kshs.47 million that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been pursuing.

Mr. Mohammed, a former rider who used to patrol the highway, sought a deal with EACC to settle his case, which has been pending in court since 2017.
