The Ministry of Education has announced the dates for the half term break for secondary schools in Kenya. The break will take place from November 19 to 23, 2021.
According to a statement by Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan, the decision was made in line with the Ministry's school term dates, as outlined in Circular Ref No. MOE/CONF/G5 dated December 3, 2020.
As a result, students will have a four-day break, returning to school on November 23. The directive was issued to all Regional Directors of Education and County Directors of Education, who are responsible for informing the Principals of Secondary Schools within their areas of jurisdiction.
The announcement comes at a time when schools across the country have been dealing with increased incidents of fire outbreaks, including the recent blaze at Buru Buru Girls High School on Sunday.
Following the fire incident, the school's management announced its closure, sending students home until further notice. The school's Board of Management Chairman, Lazarus Opicho, made the announcement after a stormy meeting with parents.
"Parents will be allowed to go home with the girls, and the date when they are supposed to come back will be communicated," Opicho told the parents.
