On November 1, 2021, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia commissioned the construction of the Sh2.2 billion Mto Mwagodi-Bura road in Taita Taveta County. The 54km road, which will be upgraded to bitumen standard, is expected to be completed in three years.

The road will serve as a vital link between farmers and markets, reducing transportation time for farm produce. According to Macharia, the area produces horticulture and dairy products, with 20 tonnes of assorted fresh produce and milk collected daily from farmers and transported to urban centres of Voi and Mombasa.

Addressing residents, Macharia said the road will not only attract investors but also improve tourism activities in Taita Hills. He added that the road will serve many key learning institutions and provide access to many health facilities.

The road's construction is being undertaken by a Chinese company, Stecol Corporation. Wiper party secretary-general Danson Mwashako praised the Jubilee government for undertaking development projects across the country, including the construction of the Mto Mwagodi-Bura road.
