Published on November 3, 2021, the issue of Raila Odinga's academic qualifications has resurfaced in every election cycle.

According to publicly available information, Raila undertook his education in East Germany after being transferred from Maranda High School. He first attended the Herder institution before receiving a scholarship in 1965 to study Mechanical Engineering and Welding at the Technical School, Magdeburg (now part of Otto-von-Guericke University).

However, former Raila ally Miguna Miguna has a different account of the matter. In 2009, he visited the Registrar's Office at the Otto-von-Guericke University to verify the publicly available information.

Unfortunately, Miguna's search yielded no credible evidence of Raila graduating with a degree from the university. The only records available were of two African students' music festivals that Raila attended.

“Chief: I visited the Registrar's Office at the Otto-von-Guericke University in 2009 and searched for any credible evidence that Conman @RailaOdinga graduated with a degree – any degree – but there were only records of him having attended two African students' music festivals,” Miguna tweeted.
