November 3, 2021, marked a significant day in the ongoing saga to have Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji dismissed from office. According to prominent city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, the push to oust Haji is being sponsored by powerful government officials.
Speaking on his Twitter account, Ahmednasir revealed that these officials have raised tens of millions of shillings to remove Haji from office. He further stated that a number of Cabinet Secretaries have generously contributed to the fund.
‘Very powerful government officials have raised tens of millions of Shillings to remove DPP Haji. A number of Cabinet Secretaries have generously contributed to the fund. So if you see endless petitions to the Public Service Commission, then know they are generously funded!’ he wrote.
It is worth noting that three petitions have been filed before the Public Service Commission (PSC) seeking Haji’s removal from office. The petitions were filed by Gabrielle Van Straten, the sister of slain Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, Francis Nyaga Njeru, and Schon Ahmed Noorani.
Van Straten accuses Haji of mismanaging her late brother’s murder case, while Nyaga Njeru alleges that Haji failed to act constitutionally in a Ksh.150 million land case against businessman Ahmed Rashid Jibril and his wife Farah Ali Mohamed. Noorani, on the other hand, wants Haji sacked for ‘mishandling’ a case where fellow businessman Rajendra Ratilal Sanghani allegedly failed to repay his debt totaling Kshs.167 million.
Despite the ongoing efforts to have Haji removed from office, Ahmednasir believes that more petitions of similar nature will continue to be placed before the PSC.
