On October 6, 2021, Allen Gichuhi was set to start a three-year term as chair of the Industrial Property Tribunal, but he never took up the role.

Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Betty Maina had announced Gichuhi's appointment through a gazette notice the previous month, but Gichuhi responded with a letter to the CS, stating that he was not consulted about the job and that interviews were not conducted before his appointment.

He also pointed out that there was no vacancy as the current chairperson, Brown Kairaria, had a contract that expired in 2022.

Gichuhi's decision to turn down the appointment was met with praise from some Kenyans, who commended him for exhibiting integrity in the face of a potentially lucrative opportunity.

President Uhuru Kenyatta subsequently revoked Gichuhi's appointment in a Gazette notice published on October 29, 2021.
