On June 8, 2021, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb Amina Mohamed visited Olympics-bound teams at Kasarani Stadium, but her efforts to reform Football Kenya Federation (FKF) were met with resistance.
On November 2, 2021, the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare was summoned to discuss the FKF audit, which was ordered by CS Amina Mohamed.
Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr questioned the legitimacy of the audit, citing a lack of notice to FKF and the involvement of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and National Intelligence Service.
Senator Samson Cherargei called for CS Amina's resignation, accusing her of presiding over 'mega corruption' in the Sports Ministry.
However, Senator Abdulkadir Haji defended CS Amina, stating that the audit was intended to ensure transparency and accountability in FKF's financial dealings.
Senator Getrude Musuruve suggested that action be taken against individuals responsible for mismanaging FKF, rather than disbanning the organization.
Senator Johnson Sakaja, who chairs the Senate standing committee on Labour and Social Welfare, warned that disbanding FKF could lead to a ban by Fifa.
Senator Kipchumba Murkomen requested that the Committee report include information on how much of the Sports Fund was being used for sports, citing allegations of misallocation of funds.
