On November 2, 2021, Workpay, a Nairobi-based company, marked a significant milestone by expanding its operations to Nigeria, which will serve as the company's hub for the West Africa region.

Workpay, a graduate of Y Combinator and Google for Startups Africa, has been selected among 50 African companies to receive equity-free funding and support from Google's Black Founders Fund Africa.

According to CEO and Co-founder Paul Kimani, 'We are not only supporting some of the amazing companies in the continent like Flutterwave, Paystack, and Yoco but also the millions of SMEs in Africa in their growth endeavors. What we are building is an infrastructure to allow SMEs to have the same advantage and tools to build their teams across the continent without breaking their banks.'

Kimani added that Nigeria is a key market for Workpay, not only in West Africa but throughout Africa, citing the similar challenges faced by SMEs in the region.

Workpay has introduced new product lines that cater to the new normal of remote work, enabling companies to hire, run local payrolls, file taxes, manage compliance, and pay salaries in over 15 currencies across Africa.

Early investor Mikael Hajjar from P1 Ventures expressed excitement about Workpay's expansion and product launch, stating, 'We are thrilled about Workpay's new market and product launch and look forward to the next growth milestones.'

Workpay's expansion to Nigeria opens up the market to companies worldwide looking to hire in Africa legally without setting up a local entity, alleviating concerns about labor and compliance laws across various countries.
