On November 2, 2021, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i emphasized the government's commitment to increasing women's participation in the 2022 General Election. He encouraged women to contest in the polls without harassment and intimidation to achieve the two-thirds gender balance.
Speaking at the Ndeiya police post in Limuru, Matiang'i asked male contestants to give women an easy time by not intimidating, harassing, or lording over them. He assured that the government would offer protection to women who want to participate in the election.
The Interior CS also announced the elevation of Ndeiya police post to a sub-county and the installation of a new District Commissioner. He explained that having a sub-county would enable local police recruitment and other government services to be conducted closer to the people.
However, Matiang'i directed that anyone occupying government land in the area should immediately vacate to allow for the construction of government offices. He instructed Governor James Nyoro to fence off the 15-acre land and the county commissioner to effect the orders.
Interior PS Karanja Kibicho accompanied Matiang'i and assured that the President had instructed them to work, despite any opposition. He advised Matiang'i to stay put and continue with their mandate to deliver to Kenyans.
Limuru MP, who was the host, welcomed the government's efforts to bring services closer to the people. He announced that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Security would be making other locations in Limuru, such as Bibirioni and Rironi, to provide government services to the community.
