On November 1, 2021, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived at City Hall in Nairobi to arrest Jairus Musumba, the acting secretary of Nairobi County, over alleged corruption.
However, Musumba managed to escape by jumping through a window, leaving behind his phone switched off.
Central Police OCPD Adamson Bungei assured that the police are on Musumba's radar and urged him to present himself to the police station before they take further action.
Several staff members from City Hall have been under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and DCI over rampant malpractices.
One of the recent cases of corruption at City Hall involved the purchase of a 120-acre land in Mavoko for KSh 283 million, which was later found to be greatly overpriced and unsuitable for a cemetery.
According to reports, the land was meant to replace the Lang'ata Cemetery, which is almost full.
