November 1, 2021 - Nairobi, Kenya - Raila Odinga, the African Union High Representative for Infrastructural Development, has emphasized the need for African countries to improve their infrastructure to boost trade within the continent.
Speaking at the Expo 2020 Dubai, Odinga noted that poor infrastructure has been a significant hindrance to trade between African nations, with the current trade level standing at around 15%.
"Africa needs to trade more with itself," Odinga said. "We want to upscale it to 30% and then 50% gradually. One of the inhibiting factors has been poor infrastructure in the continent, and we have to ensure that the infrastructure in the continent is improved."
Odinga expressed his satisfaction with Kenya's participation in the Dubai Expo, praising the country's marketing efforts and the showcase of its products and tourism potential.
The African Union, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates government, hosted its second event at the Expo 2020 Dubai under the theme of Infrastructure Development in Africa.
With 92 countries participating, including Kenya, each country has been allocated a national day to promote its culture, trade, investment, and tourism opportunities.
Kenya's national day will be held on February 16, 2022, and the country plans to have an entire Kenya week with various activities, including a flower activation on Valentine's Day and a Kenya UAE trade investment and business forum.
