On July 5, 2019, Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital in Laikipia welcomed a team of medical experts from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, USA, for a continuous medical education program.

Dr. David Hill, a professor at the Frank H. Netter M.D. School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, led the team, which included Dr. Robert Crusio, a specialist in internal medicine and intensivist.

The team's presentation focused on sepsis, a serious medical condition that occurs when the body overreacts to bacterial infections. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 30 million cases of sepsis are recorded worldwide each year, resulting in five million deaths annually.

The visiting medics briefed the hospital staff on the recommended standard practice for returning patients from a severe stage of septic shock to a safer state, emphasizing the importance of timely action in saving lives.

Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi welcomed the team and assured the medical fraternity of full support for research efforts aimed at improving health delivery to the people.

The visiting team also presented medical equipment and books to the health staff, further enhancing their capabilities.

The continuous medical education program is an internal initiative aimed at keeping the medical personnel at the facility abreast with the latest developments in the field of medicine.
