Published on November 1, 2021, Kenya's Shujaa rugby team made a triumphant return to the top of the Safari Sevens tournament, defeating Germany 12-5 in the final to claim the title.
Shujaa's victory marked a perfect revenge for the team, who had suffered a narrow 14-12 loss to Germany in the group phase on the opening day of the competition.
Alvin 'Buffa' Otieno and Johnstone Olindi were the stars of the show for Shujaa, with Otieno scoring a try in the first half and Olindi dotting down the winning try in the second half.
Olindi's try was the result of a well-executed move, with him picking up a beautiful offload from Otieno and racing down the field to score under the posts.
Germany showed some resistance in the first half, forcing Shujaa to play on the back foot and commit mistakes on possession. However, the Kenyan team regrouped in the second half and came back strongly, taking the game to Germany and eventually emerging victorious.
Earlier in the day, the Kenya Lionesses finished top of the women's round robin tournament after beating Uganda 26-0 in the last round of matches. Janet 'Shebesh' Okello was named the Most Valuable Player and top try scorer in the women's tournament, while Alvin 'Buffa' Otieno was named Most Valuable Player of the men's tournament.
