On November 1, 2021, Kenya received a significant boost to its COVID-19 vaccination drive with the arrival of 990,990 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The vaccine donation, valued at 990,990 doses, was made by the US government and received by CAS Health Dr. Mercy Mwangangi on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

Speaking after receiving the consignment, Dr. Mwangangi noted that the vaccines are part of a larger shipment of 5 million doses expected in the country from the US, comprising of Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

The vaccines will be stored in various regional stores across the country, including Kitengela Central Vaccine Stores, Kakamega Regional Stores, Kisumu Regional stores, Meru Regional stores, and the Mombasa Regional stores.

Dr. Mwangangi also announced that the Government has set aside a substantial amount of money to procure more vaccines and receive donations from international partners.

“The Government has committed substantial funds for procurement of vaccines through the AVAT mechanism even as it continues to receive donations from international partners,” Dr. Mwangangi said.
