On October 31, 2021, a fire engulfed a dormitory at Buruburu Girls Secondary School in Nairobi, sending students fleeing for their lives.

According to eyewitness Diana Mwangangi, students were seen jumping from as high as the third floor as smoke billowed from the building.

Ms. Mwangangi, who alerted others to the scene, reported that the school guards blocked people from entering the school compound.

Confirming the incident, Buruburu Sub-County Police Commander Francis Kamau stated that firefighters were at the scene, but it was too early to determine the extent of the damage or if any students were trapped.

Several injured students were rushed to the nearby Metropolitan Hospital, where they received treatment.
