On a day that saw the return of the Nyamira 10km Great Run, Stephene Arita and Winfridah Moseti proved their mettle, taking the top spots in the third edition of the event.
Arita, a professional athlete with the Kenya Defence Forces, clocked 28:55.05 to edge out Enock Onchari, the winner of the first two editions, who finished in 29:19.54.
Onchari attributed his defeat to his lack of recovery after participating in the Paris Marathon two weeks prior, saying, "I have not recovered well because it was just recently I participated in the Paris Marathon."
Evans Mayaka came in third with a time of 29:27.80.
Winfridah Moseti dominated the female's race, clocking 33:34.32, a few seconds before her close competitor Nancy Kerage, who finished in 36:02.66.
Christine Oigo, the winner of the first edition, claimed the third position with a time of 36:24.76.
The event, which started at Gekendo School and ended at Esanige Stadium, was witnessed by Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and County staff, who also participated in the 'keep the doctor away run' luxury races.
Speaking after the race, Arita praised the event, saying the road track was good but the mountain climbing was the biggest challenge due to the unfavourable terrain.
