Kenya's Shujaa rugby team has made a strong start at the 23rd edition of the Safari 7s tournament, held at Nyayo Stadium on October 31, 2021.

The team's impressive performance saw them demolish Nigeria Stallions 60-0 and Zimbabwe 26-5, securing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Branson Madigu and Timothy Mmasi scored a brace each against Nigeria, while Levy Amunga's precise conversions propelled the hosts to an emphatic win.

Against Zimbabwe, Johnstone Olindi grounded two tries, with captain Herman Humwa and Alvin Marube scoring one each.

However, head coach Innocent Simiyu expressed disappointment with his team's performance against Germany, who edged them 14-12.

"We lacked composure against the Germans. We played off the script. We were a bit cocky with the ball and they punished us," Simiyu told Standard Sports.

The ongoing tournament has also attracted a large crowd of die-hard rugby fans, who braved the early morning downpour to watch the matches.

Many spectators were thrilled to meet and greet their icons, including Collins Injera and Andrew Amonde, who they only see on television while playing on big stages like the World Rugby Sevens.
