On October 30, 2021, a group of allies of Deputy President William Ruto from the Mlima Kenya region came out in defense of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, urging the government to stop harassing her.

Speaking at the official residence of Deputy President Ruto, the lawmakers, including Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Irungu Kang'ata (senator, Murang'a), Kimani Ichung'wah (Kikuyu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), and Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), criticized the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for being used to intimidate those who refuse to join the ODM party led by Raila Odinga.

'You (EACC and DCI) have lost moral ground quickly, as you have accepted being used to serve political interests,' said Nyoro.

He added that the actions of EACC and DCI would not deter them from implementing their economic empowerment plan for millions of poor Kenyans.

Kang'ata claimed that EACC is protecting corrupt politicians who are being targeted by Waiguru before she joined UDA.

However, they failed to provide evidence that EACC and DCI are being used to harass those who refuse to join Odinga's party.

Deputy President Ruto called on politicians to avoid ethnic politics and unite to change the lives of Kenyans.

'The upcoming general election will be about the economy,' he said.

'We want to give Kenyans an agenda and we are ready to listen to them,' he added.
