The United States of America (US) Embassy in Nairobi will host a Joint Readiness Exercise (JRE) on Saturday, October 30, 2021, to build counter-terrorism capabilities.
Representatives from the Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Kenyan government will participate in the exercise, which will include simulated explosions, smoke, blank gunfire, fire, and traffic disruptions in the areas surrounding the US Embassy and Rosslyn Academy between 10am and 3pm.
The exercise aims to test the county's preparedness in dealing with terror attacks and is conducted in places with large gatherings such as learning institutions, religious places, and open public spaces.
Members of the public who will be in the location and its surroundings have been advised not to panic, as the exercise will also include fire and emergency drills.
The US Embassy has also warned Americans against travelling to areas within Turkana due to the high crime rate witnessed in the county, as well as Eastleigh and Kibera slums in Nairobi, which have been deemed unsafe.
