On October 29, 2021, Mombasa will host the third edition of the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games, which will bring together 47 counties in a spectacular display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Champions Uasin Gishu County will be out to defend their title, and over 10,000 participants are set to participate in 21 disciplines from Monday to Saturday at several designated venues.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were not held last year, but this year's event will go ahead with strict adherence to health protocols, including no spectators.
Association Chairman Peter Imwatok of Nairobi County emphasized the importance of observing pandemic protocols, saying, "We shall not allow spectators in the games as a way of observing the pandemic protocols released by the Ministry of Health."
The theme of this year's games is "Harnessing the Power of Sports and Culture in Reigniting Hope and Restoration in Times of Crises," which is particularly relevant given the challenges the country has faced in the past two years.
Imwatok thanked the Ministry of Health for giving them permission to hold the event and urged participants to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.
"Sports in society reminds us that keeping time pays, that following prescribed rules does not have to be boring and that we must always have a place for fun in our lives," he added.
