On October 29, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the defection of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru from Jubilee Party to UDA, calling out politicians who change affiliations during times of need.
Speaking in Ruiru, Uhuru Kenyatta emphasized the importance of tolerance and integrity in leadership, urging Kenyans to vote for leaders who will continue supporting his development projects.
He also appealed to Kenyans not to fall for incitement remarks from politicians, warning that the common mwananchi stands to lose the most if the country lacks peace.
Uhuru's comments come amid reports that detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were probing Waiguru in relation to the loss of funds at her county.
Waiguru had earlier insinuated that the summons was made because of her stand on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) after it flopped and the 2022 succession politics.
However, Waiguru's biggest competitor, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, dismissed the claims that she was being targeted for joining UDA, stating that when anti-graft agencies strike, one should not blame it on joining UDA.
