Published on October 29, 2021, a joint effort by local leaders and security officials in Bungoma County has seen over 800 girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies return to class.
Some of the girls who were in primary and secondary schools have been reunited with their classmates after being counseled and supported by the authorities.
Catherine Wambilianga, the Woman Representative for the region, revealed that more than 6,000 girls have been impregnated since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March 2020.
"We have engaged experts to guide and counsel them," she said, adding that some of the girls have already returned to school after giving birth.
Wambilianga also pointed out that bodaboda operators are among the key players in the illicit affair.
