Kenyan Hiker Aims to Conquer Mt Kenya in Record 12 Hours

Patrick Kuria, a seasoned hiker from Kenya, has announced his intention to climb and descend Mt Kenya in a record 12 hours on November 20, 2021. This ambitious feat is a significant departure from the usual 6-7 day hike.

According to Kuria, he has been preparing for this challenge by taking similar hikes on even higher mountains. He has successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, in 24 hours, which has encouraged him to take on tougher challenges.

As an accountant by profession, Kuria started hiking in 1998 and upgraded to high-end mountains in 2012. Despite the risks involved, Kuria has developed a strategy to overcome fear, which he believes is essential for success in such endeavors.

His primary goal is to raise awareness about the importance of forest conservation and help address Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15. To achieve this, he plans to plant a tree for every second he spends on the mountain, which translates to over 45,000 trees in 12 hours.

Kuria has urged all Kenyans to support him by buying tree seedlings when he takes on the challenge. If successful, he will have helped the country plant a significant number of trees.
