On October 28, 2021, a Nairobi-based businessman appeared in court, urging the prosecution to drop fraud charges against him. He claimed he could refund Sh3 million to his accuser, Rose Muthoni Mwaura, a Nairobi trader.

The businessman, Peter Fredrick Kimani Mbugua, was arrested on allegations that he obtained Sh3.02 million from Mwaura under false pretenses. It is alleged that Mbugua promised to supply Mwaura with Soya beans between August 6 and August 28, but he knew he was not in a position to deliver the goods.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo directed that Mbugua be detained at the Muthaiga Police Station until November 2, 2021, when he would be produced in court for a mention of the case and a report on the money-refund progress.
