On October 24, 2021, six students from Kibirigwi Girls Secondary School in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, allegedly vandalized school property, leading to the school's closure.
According to reports, the students were accused of destroying buildings and causing significant damage to the school's property, including furniture, books, blankets, and students' personal belongings.
The students denied the allegations in court and were released on a Sh50,000 bond each until November 8, when the case is set to be mentioned.
Police are investigating the incident, which occurred on a Sunday evening, and have taken statements from witnesses.
Meanwhile, in Tharaka Nithi County, police are investigating two boys' schools that were vandalized on the same Sunday.
Deputy County Commissioner Philip Sigei stated that the incident is a complex issue in ongoing investigations into the vandalism of two boys' schools in Kiriani Boys Secondary School and Muthambi Boys Secondary School.
Police suspect that there may have been communication between the perpetrators of the two incidents.
