On Thursday, October 28, 2021, a Toyota Probox with registration plate KBZ 113S was stolen in Saika area, Kayole, Nairobi. The vehicle belonged to Francis Gatambi, a resident of Kayole.
According to a police report filed at the Githurai Mwiki Police Station under OB Number 4/29/10/2021, the suspects had tampered with the ignition and used an improvised metallic rod to start the car.
On Friday morning, police officers engaged the suspects in a 3:30am shoot-out on the Mwiki-Githurai 45 road. Three of the suspects were shot dead, while a fourth escaped towards Mwiki with gunshot wounds.
A home-made pistol was recovered in the vehicle after the shoot-out. The bodies of the three suspected gangsters were moved to the City Mortuary, where no identification documents were found on them.
Ruiru Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Justus Ombati has confirmed that a probe into the incident has been launched, with a search mounted for the suspect who escaped.
