On October 28, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) wrote to Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, requesting an explanation for the Sh430 million the CS claimed the government had given the federation. The letter, signed by FKF Chief Executive Barry Otieno, was in response to Amina's statement to the Committee on Sports and Tourism on Wednesday.

According to Amina, the government had sent Ksh430 million to the federation, leaving a possible Sh77 million unaccounted for. However, FKF's bank records indicate that between 2019 and 2021, the federation received and accounted for Sh355,512,205, not Sh433,500,000 as communicated by the CS.

FKF is currently undergoing an audit for suspected misappropriation of funds. In the letter, Otieno requested the Ministry of Sports and National Sports Fund to provide exchequer releases and bank details indicating where the Sh77 million meant to support the national teams were remitted. This includes a Sh9.5 million that was purportedly remitted to the federation to support the Harambee Stars in the Cecafa tournament, as the federation has no record of the remittance.

Amina had stated that the first disbursement from the kitty to the federation was Sh244.5 million for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. The federation was further given Sh21.3 million to cater for the demands of the individuals who handled Harambee Stars as coaches at the time.
