Published on October 29, 2021, Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga have sparked a debate over Central Kenya's potential presidential candidate in the 2022 polls.
The two governors have differing views on whether the region, which has produced three presidents, should field a candidate. Nyoro urged residents to reflect and wait for God's intervention, stating that Nyeri county has not produced a president.
However, Kahiga emphasized the importance of the region having a presidential candidate, cautioning residents against blindly supporting a candidate for selfish gains. His comments appear to be directed at ODM leader Raila Odinga, who is favored by President Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed him.
As the 2022 polls approach, Odinga, Deputy President William Ruto, and other presidential hopefuls are intensifying their campaigns in the region.
