Published on October 29, 2021, a joke has been circulating on social media about the aesthetic appeal of houses built by Kikuyu landlords in Nairobi.

While these landlords have been successful in providing housing to Nairobians, their buildings have been criticized for being eyesores.

The term 'Kikuyu Gothic Architecture' has been used to describe the unique features of these houses, which include small rooms, mismatched tile designs, and poorly planned layouts.

One of the most notable features of these houses is the incredibly small rooms, which are often used to maximize profits.

Another common feature is the headache-inducing selection of tiles, with multiple designs and colors used in a single room.

Walls are often painted in a variety of colors, and items are sometimes placed in the wrong locations, such as a sink in the living room or a toilet bowl in the kitchen.

Additionally, some of these houses feature narrow stairways and no lifts, making them difficult to navigate.
