Belgrade, Serbia, October 29, 2021 - The AIBA World Boxing Championships have seen a devastating impact on Kenyan boxers, with the latest casualties being Joseph Shigali and Martin Oduor.
Shigali, a welterweight boxer who represents Police locally, was outboxed by Mexico's Marco Hernandez, who secured a 5-0 points victory.
Martin Oduor, a featherweight boxer, also fell victim to the Belgrade 'tsunami' and lost on points to DR Congo's Nkosi Lutaka.
Oduor attributed his defeat to their poor start, stating that their opponents are often aggressive in the first round and then cool down in the following rounds.
"This is what I want us to be taught by our coaches when we return home," said Oduor in an interview in Belgrade.
With 10 Kenyan boxers already defeated in the championships, the remaining boxers, including Shafi Bakari, Edwin Okong'o, and Martin Maina, will be looking to turn the tide in their favor.
