October 27, 2021, marked a significant day in the League Cup as West Ham United defeated holders Manchester City in a penalty shootout at London Stadium.

After a goalless 90 minutes, the Hammers triumphed 5-3 in the spot kicks, bringing an end to Pep Guardiola's team's four-year run of League Cup triumphs.

This victory means the League Cup will be won by a non-Manchester club for the first time since 2015, following Manchester United's elimination in the previous round.

Elsewhere, Liverpool secured their place in the last eight with a 2-0 win over Preston North End, thanks to second-half goals from Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi.

Leicester City also progressed after a 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, with the Foxes advancing on penalties after Enock Mwepu missed the crucial spot kick.

Tottenham Hotspur and Premier League Brentford also secured their places in the quarter-finals, with the draw for the remaining teams to be held on Saturday.
