Kakamega Bishop Dies After Short Illness

Shem Shamalla, the 84-year-old high priest of the African Church of the Holy Spirit, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 27, 2021, at his home in Malava, Kakamega County.

According to Bishop Samson Khalwale, the church's secretary, Shamalla died after a short illness.

The church's doctrines do not allow the bodies of its members to be preserved in morgues, meaning Shamalla's body will be preserved at home until his burial day on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Shamalla was previously in the news on September 18, 2021, when Deputy President William Ruto gifted him a Suzuki Escudo, a sport utility vehicle, during a visit to the church as part of his countrywide campaigns ahead of the 2022 General Election.

The African Church of the Holy Spirit, headquartered in Malava, has a membership of approximately 2,000 people.
