On October 26, 2021, a Nairobi court heard a shocking revelation about Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi's academic credentials. The MP was accused of forging his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Exams (KCSE) certificate, which he claimed to have obtained in 2006 from Highway Secondary School in Nairobi.
However, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) principal examinations secretary, Nabiki ene Kashu, testified that Sudi was not registered with the body for that exam. Kashu revealed that KNEC received a letter from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on September 17, 2015, requesting it to verify Sudi's academic credentials.
Upon checking, KNEC could not find Sudi's name on their database, and his purported index prefix did not belong to Highway Secondary School. In fact, the index number provided by Sudi belonged to one Obaje Bob Onyango, who sat the 2006 KCSE exams at Parklands Secondary School.
There is no possibility of two schools sharing a code number during a given examination, and similarly, there is no possibility of two candidates sharing an index number, Kashu explained. The witness concluded that the purported copy of certificates presented to Knec for authentication purposes is obtained from a forged document.
