On October 26, 2021, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua secured a major reprieve after the High Court stopped activist Boniface Mwangi from further defaming him.

High Court judge Margaret Muigai issued the orders in an application filed by the governor, effectively granting an interim injunction to restrain Mr. Mwangi from publishing defamatory material about Governor Mutua.

According to the court order, Mr. Mwangi was prohibited from publishing any defamatory material in print or electronic media, on any electronic or web-hosted platform, concerning Governor Mutua.

Justice Muigai also certified Governor Mutua's application as urgent and directed him to serve Mr. Mwangi, who was expected to respond within two weeks.

The case will be mentioned on November 4.

Reacting to the court order, Governor Mutua tweeted, "So much truth in this court order. I consider myself gagged but the court order says it all." (@DrAlfredMutua)
