On September 18, 2021, Ferdinand Omanyala made history at the MISC Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya, during the Kenyan round of the prestigious 2021 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series.
He shattered South Africa's Akani Simbine's African record in the 100m dash, clocking 9.77 seconds, and emerged as the eighth-fastest man in history in the category.
At the same event, Omanyala beat former Olympic great Justin Gatlin to finish second behind American Trayvon Bromell, who won the race in 9.76 seconds.
For his outstanding achievement, Omanyala was awarded LG Sport's Personality of the Month award, taking home an LG SolarDOM Oven worth Sh65,000.
He joins a list of notable winners, including tennis star Angela Okutoyi, basketballer Tylor Okari Ongwae, boxer Elly Ajowi, and reigning world marathon champion Ruth Chepng'etich.
