Kenya's Covid-19 cases continued to rise on Tuesday, October 27, 2021, with 151 new infections reported, bringing the total confirmed positive cases to 252,839. The new cases were from a sample size of 7,224 tested in the last 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 2.1 per cent, down from 1.2 per cent on Monday.
Of the new infections, 141 were Kenyans, while 10 were foreigners, with 84 being male and 67 female. The youngest case was a one-year-old baby, while the oldest was 113 years old. The total cumulative tests conducted so far stood at 2,682,247.
The new infections were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording 30 cases, Bomet 18, Meru 17, and Makueni 13. Other counties with new cases included Nakuru, Kericho, Bungoma, Kisii, Kajiado, Kisumu, Mombasa, Narok, Kakamega, Nyeri, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Kiambu, Marsabit, Nyandarua, and Garissa.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the new cases and recoveries in a statement on Tuesday, October 27, 2021. He also reported that 35 more patients had recovered from the disease, with 25 of them being from home-based care and 10 from hospitals.
The total recoveries now stood at 246,390, with 199,044 being from the home-based isolation programme and 47,346 from various health facilities countrywide. Mr Kagwe also reported three deaths, all of which were reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in July and October 2021. This pushed the cumulative fatalities to 5,263.
According to Mr Kagwe, 488 patients were admitted to various hospitals countrywide, while 1,308 were under home-based isolation. He also reported that 27 patients were in intensive care, 13 of whom were on ventilatory support and 14 on supplemental oxygen. Another 157 patients were separately on supplemental oxygen, with 149 of them being in general wards and eight in high dependency units.
Regarding vaccination, a total of 5,029,901 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 3,545,060 were first doses, while 1,484,841 were fully vaccinated. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 39.8 per cent, while the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 5.4 per cent.
