The 18th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is set to take place on October 31st, 2021, with a virtual run already underway across the country and beyond.
The virtual contest, which started on Monday and will end on Sunday, aims to encourage active lifestyles among Kenyans.
Participants can choose to run either 5Kms, 10km, 21kms, 42kms, or 42kms relay in the virtual competition, with the option to upload their speed and timings using the Strava app.
There are various hotspots across the country where participants can join other runners for the virtual race, including green spaces in Nairobi, Thika, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, Kitale, Siaya, Eldoret, Kericho, Mombasa, Meru, and Nanyuki.
For the physical marathon, which is limited to 2500 elite runners, the kit collection exercise is still ongoing, with participants in Nairobi able to pick up their items at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
International participants will have their kits delivered in their countries through a partnership with DHL.
Chief Operating Officer at Dimension Data, Peter Ndirangu, and Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, Kariuki Ngari, were among those who participated in the virtual run, expressing their excitement and encouraging others to join.
