On October 26, 2021, a tense standoff unfolded at Kambu police post in Makueni, as two local teachers narrowly escaped a violent mob's wrath.

The two educators, based at local primary schools, had earlier in the day received a Ksh1 million token from Deputy President William Ruto, who was campaigning in the area.

However, the teachers' decision to keep the money for themselves sparked outrage among the local bodaboda riders and market vendors, who felt they were entitled to a share.

As the situation escalated, the teachers sought refuge at the police post, where they took cover behind two surprised officers manning the desk.

The officers struggled to calm down the angry mob, which hurled projectiles and demanded that the teachers be released to face instant justice.

Fortunately, reinforcements from Mtito a Ndei police station arrived promptly, restoring order and allowing the situation to de-escalate.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
