Co-op Bank CEO Wins Top Honour at EMEA Finance Awards

Dr Gideon Muriuki, Managing Director & CEO of Co-operative Bank Group, has been recognised as the Best Bank CEO in Africa at the 2021 EMEA Finance Awards.

The prestigious award acknowledges Dr Muriuki's exceptional leadership in navigating the bank through the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring the payment of dividends to shareholders and retaining staff.

Under his leadership, the Co-op Bank Group implemented key strategies to address the challenges faced by businesses and households, including sustaining dividend payments and redeploying staff to manage pandemic-related disruptions.

The EMEA Finance Awards committee also feted Dr Muriuki for driving sustainable credit-growth models and the successful acquisition and stabilisation of Jamii Bora Bank (renamed Kingdom Bank).

Additionally, the Co-operative Bank was awarded the Best Bank in Kenya Award, and Co-opTrust Investment Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, received the Best Asset Manager award, with Kshs 181 billion in assets under management.
