On October 26, 2021, the African Development Bank (AfDB) announced its plans to invest in a USD 45 million vaccine production plant in East Africa. The project aims to enable routine production of three vaccines, including those for COVID-19.

The plant, which is WHO-prequalified, is expected to address the issue of vaccine inequity in the continent. According to Chinelo Anohu, Senior Director of the Africa Investment Forum, the project will provide a co-investment platform to mobilize domestic and international investors.

Additionally, the Africa Investment Forum has showcased a USD 96 million project to develop a 250-bed specialist hospital in a West African country. The project has already commenced, with feasibility studies carried out and land secured for construction.

Stavros Nicolaou, Senior Executive of Strategic Trade at Aspen Pharmacare, emphasized the importance of preventive care, including vaccines, in reducing Africa's high disease burden.
