FC Barcelona's summer departures of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi have left a gaping hole in their attack. According to Albert 'Chapi' Ferrer, a former Blaugrana player, the team's reliance on possession football makes it challenging for a new striker to adapt.
Speaking to Mirror in an interview published on October 26, 2021, Ferrer stated, 'We'll see how Memphis behaves, but it's not a real number 9. Let's not forget that Barça lost Messi and Suarez in two years. This represents an average of 50 goals per season. To win realistically they need a top striker, but they have to consider the way they play.'
Ferrer believes that neither Mbappé nor Haaland would be an ideal fit for Barcelona's style of play. 'I think Barcelona can fight for the titles even now, but I think they need a striker to make a difference,' he said. 'If you look at the big clubs, most of them have a top striker who scores 20 goals every season and that's something Barca lacks.'
